A story written as part of a project to make books available for indigenous communities that the children can relate to.
An account of a journey to the Greek island of Andros - one of the least known of the Greek islands, except to the Greeks who would like to keep it that way.It is the most northern of the Cyclades, and is regarded as one of the most fertile.
A good guide for those wishing to learn about an interesting Greek island before it too is 'developed'. The author also illustrated A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO ANDROS, published in Greece and not obtainable in Australia.
This book is a project of Ron and Anne Edwards and the Lockhart River Art Gang. We have known them for two years.
Last year and the year before they helped us with leatherwork and sketching. The project is about sketching around Lockhart, telling you about Lockhart and also about our art work.
Ron and Anne came and spent many days with us on this project. We hope you enjoy reading our book because it will help you to know Lockhart better. Rosella-Namok
This book is the result of a collaboration between Kubin State School, Ron and Anne Edwards and the Rams Skull Press in July 1997.
The artist-in-residency project was made possible through the funding support of PCAP (Priority Country Area Program). Bill Richards, State School Principal at Kubin, played a vital role in nurturing this project.
Thanks also to the teachers Louise Manus and Louisa Sagiba and the teacher's aids Loretta Bosun and Sara Neliman. Thanks also to Ann Richards for her healing hands.
Being a stranger to the Island I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the names in this booklet, but asked Bill Richards to check it for me before we went to press.
Most visitors to Jowalbinna leave from Cairns.
A few go by light aircraft, for there is a landing strip not far from the camp, but most go by four-wheel drive, either in their own vehicles or in one of those belonging to local Bush Guides.
The Laura sandstone area contains the most extensive and comprehensive collection of Aboriginal rock art in Queensland, and some of the most important art in Australia by any definition. The Laura sandstones are a striking geological feature, kilometer after kilometer of flat-topped escarpments, their golden rock faces pitted with hundreds of shallow caves which provided excellent shelter for the early inhabitants of this vast country.
This is the largest book on flat plaits to have been published, yet it does not cover the most common plaits!
This is because they have already been covered in two other books by the same author Bush Leatherwork and More Bush Leatherwork.
This book is intended for the person who already knows the basics, and is interested in developing further. Many of the plaits illustrated here are unusual, but easy to do while others are very complex and not for the faint hearted!
The book is quite heavy, but spiral bound to allow the pages to sit open whilst you follow the complex plaiting patterns
Table of Contents below in the image gallery.
The first volume of this work illustrated all the important flat plait as well as a number of interesting small knobs and knots.
This second volume deals with the round knots, those knots which are designed to wrap around any object that needs covering. Even a book this size only touches on the subject but it attempts to cover all the popular knots and some complicated ones for people who enjoy a challenge.
Illustrating a round knot can be difficult, as half the knot is hidden at the back of the work, but this book leaves no steps hidden. The job is flattened so that everything is visible.
Takes a bit of getting used to, but well worth it.
Also a heavy book, and spiral bound to lay flat while you work from it.

This book was commenced in 1964 and was intended to be a collaboration between the anthropologist Charles Mountford and the artist and author Ron Edwards.
The plan was that Edwards would explore north Queensland to record rock art sites and send the results to South Australia to Mountford, whose part in the project was to interpret the material sent to him. Unfortunately Mountford died in 1976 and any writing that he may have done for the book seems to have vanished. The project was then abandoned, but in 2007 Edwards discovered that some of the art that he had recorded forty years earlier had faded from sight, and other examples had been destroyed. Realising that the drawings that he had made all those years ago might now be the only evidence of many of the sites it was decided to publish the drawings, and the field notes that went with them, as a historical record.
This publication is designed to outline information on traditional games and details relevant to A Typology of the Traditional Games of Australian Aboriginals and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The typology has been developed as a result of an extensive review of information on traditional games which has been researched over many years by Kenneth Edwards. This book is also available in printed form, contact us for further information.
A follow up to the previous book CATS, and on the same subject.
Besides watercolour sketches of cats with poems, the technique of sumi-e is featured. A must for cat-lovers.
